Paint Your Old Kitchen Cabinets. Finish with a flat top coat of the base color, brushed on perpendicular to the glaze. When you're finished applying the cleaner, rinse but don't soak the cabinets with clean water, then allow them to dry thoroughly.
You don't necessarily need to get every bit of varnish off. If the woodwork is warped, badly worn or damaged, or coming apart at the glued joints, you can opt to buy new unfinished doors and drawers and paint them along with your existing cabinets. If your kitchen is in need of an aesthetic revival, applying a few coats of color to dull or dated cabinets can make your space feel fresh and modern without the commitment of a full on renovation.
Or, maybe […] Painting your kitchen cabinets is the single most transformative thing you can do to your kitchen without a gut renovation.
Sure, cabinet painting does sound simple enough.
But having white and light colored cabinets, is not easy to maintain in an active kitchen. Working from top to bottom, apply the paint to the cabinet exterior across the grain, then tip it off with the grain. Is the kitchen less than fabulous?
